Chivaz has grown up.
Starting as a simple dream in 2006, moving into a successful Kickstarter project in 2012 and launching as a full fledged business in early 2013.
In the past 8 years, I have learned quite a bit. I wish that I could say that I have learned to run a successful business, but unfortunately that has not been the case, for now.
My wife told me a meaningful quote this morning. She said: “There are no failures in life, only quitters.” I am not sure exactly who said that, or even I understand it properly, or frankly that I even have properly cited the quote, but here is what I take from it: If you quit, you fail at your mission. So, even though Chivaz is not successful, it is far from being a failure.
As of today, Chivaz is changing. Instead of continuing to follow the same strategy that hasn’t allowed me to quit my day job, I am switching things up.
I have always tried to be honest about the state of Chivaz, but from now on, I am going to open things up even more.
I am not sure exactly what this means or where it will be hosted, but this email is just the start.
In the future, I am going to get more into the specifics about each of the following topics:
Why I am still running Chivaz
What are the upsides/downsides with sharing your financial status with the world
How much socks really cost
Why Chivaz charges so much for a pair of socks
Why Chivaz only has 9 styles of socks
Finding your target market and when you know it isn’t working
Getting a manufacturer/supplier in Asia
The importance of face to face meetings
When you know you are wasting your money on digital ads
The best hip hop music to listen to when trying to do work
The best hip hop music to listen to when you are not working
The best spots to swim in the Bay Area….
Ok, I guess I am getting a bit unfocused here.
What I am trying to say is that I have learned a lot and I am not going to quit.
I have to start a new job on Monday. The time for Chivaz is going to be severely limited, at least for a while. I hope to check in with you all soon.
Now I have to go pick my son up from school.
